“Tuck Everlasting” is the next offering in the Straw Hat Theatre summer season.

The musical, based on the novel of the same name by Natalie Babbitt, features a book by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle, music by Chris Miller and lyrics by Nathan Tysen.

It tells the story of 11-year-old Winnie Foster, who yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but it’s not until she becomes entwined with the Tucks, a family that has become immortal, that she gets more than she could have imagined.

When Winnie learns of the magic behind the Tucks’ unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret from those who would do anything for a chance at eternal life. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

The straw hat production is directed by Ave Warren Lowe with musical direction by Ashley Nelling and Nora Giangola.

“Tuck Everlasting will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday through July 30 on the grounds of the Ashtabula Art Center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students, senior citizens and military, and $11 for children ages 2 to 12 if purchased in advance online at ashtabulaartscenter.org or by calling 440-964-3396. Tickets purchased the day of the show are $2 more.
